We had a sad week this week, when several of our seedlings succumbed to the dreaded overnight frosts. Darn it ! Still, it’s been a rookie learning curve and next year we won’t plant out until all fear of frosts is passed (even if it is May !) So back to square one with a few of our crops, and the seedlings are once again being nurtured on our overcrowded windowsills.
Some of the seedlings that had not yet made it into the ‘big bad outside world’ have been potted on and are now being hardened off in our (currently) sunshiny garden. This includes Tomato plants, New Zealand Yams, Dahila Yams and Geraniums. This week we’ve also done plenty of digging and weeding in the allotment and have also put grass seed down on the right hand side of our plot around the raised beds. After the frosts though, there is now a serious lack of rain … I know we should be careful what we wish for – and although we’re enjoying this lovely sunny spell – the land looks so crispy !
